☈ strike #14 (action / voice)
[ After the whole fiasco with having to take down Jack Horner's dragon form, Lightning's been thinking a lot lately-- namely, about her own trouble with maintaining a human form and fallout from failing against her will several months ago- both things which, frankly, she's been trying to avoid.
However, she can't just keep ignoring it forever, can she? Especially considering that ever since then, even if she's continued to grow slowly stronger and is currently safe from the ramifications of an active l'Cie Brand... the 'penalty' she was saddled with makes using her powers a lot harder than how it used to be.
And so she practices, attempting to get a handle on the magic that's there but no longer instinctive like it once was. Healing magic is fairly easy to figure out, the weaker elemental things like Thunder and Water are simple enough if difficult to aim now, but as for the more complicated spells...?
As for learning new ones...?
She can be found alternately in the battle dome and outside near the edges of town quite a bit during these last few days, with and without her gunblade and various other weapons from before and during her time spent here. She's not really doing much actual fighting, though; it's obvious she's trying to do something, concentrating for sometimes minutes at a time, before casting something that just seems to flicker in the air around her, or light up the edges of her weapons with bright-colored energy.
After some time and a lot of deliberation, she turns to the journals. ]

I'll meet you outside the house?
[filtered] > [action!]
HER LITTLE BOY IS GROWING UP AND LEARNING. :'D]Right.
[ With that, she'll just be out near the path and waiting for him, idly messing with her fingernails and... wondering if this is even a good idea-- not her learning more things, but with him. She's... not the one in danger any more, after all. ]

Next'll be that growth spurt...And Lightning'll soon hear the clomp of sneakers bounding down the porch steps and scuffling out onto the dirt as the boy's light jog carries him over to her.]
Okay. I'm ready.
no subject
He'll have to pick up some new bondage pants...Lightning's head is stuffed full of thoughts, but it's no problem to summon up a small smile for the teen as he approaches. She promptly turns in place to indicate the direction she has in mind-- and holds out a bag for him to carry at the same time.
Guess what she meant by 'walk?' You didn't have anything planned for the rest of the day, did you? ]
no subject
Um... so what are we doing with this? [But he obediently falls into step beside her, shuffling a little.]
no subject
[ This is not that weird to her at all - JUST LIKE OLD TIMES, HUH? Only... a lot more prepared, actually. He's welcome to go through the bag though- it's mostly water and BUG SPRAY and fruit and whatever else he happens to like because she's sure to know. And a flashlight. And a knife, though not the knife, obviously.
... Don't ask how she managed to produce that without seeming to go back to the house, though. Just... don't. ]
no subject
I... I guess we should go someplace where we won't damage any of the village, huh. [A bit of an amused smile crosses his face.] So you just figured out how to do that stuff today?
no subject
Yeah. Don't want to harm the forest either, though.
[ She... thinks the two of them could probably fend off Moro, but it's best not to even go there if possible. Anyway... ]
More or less. [ It's much harder to tell now than it was before, though she hopes she doesn't have to mention that. If she's already described to anyone the newer limits on her magic, it's bound to be Hope. ] I've... been trying for about a week or so.
no subject
Did you try casting them on anyone else yet?
[He shifts his weight a little, lifting a wrist to sweep it across his brow. It is rather warm out, and he's already broken a bit of a sweat from the walking they've done. At least he's grown out of whining about it.
(At least in this current point in time.)]Try casting one on me. We'll see if it works. Sometimes it's difficult to tell if you only have yourself to try them on.
no subject
I haven't. And we already know healing works on others, but... there's no way to know yet whether it will work on people who aren't l'Cie too. [ She lets out a quick breath, at once relaxing by force and readying herself. ] So... best to experiment with what we do know first.
[ And after that bout of
unnecessaryexplanation interchange, she'll get right on actually doing as suggested- she had been talking about Protect, but then she chooses Faith to initially try on Hope instead. Kind of an odd choice, but again, it's something that would seem to be pretty l'Cie-exclusive. It also came to her first, even if it would be hard to tell with the amount of obvious effort it takes to finally produce it... ]no subject
You can do that, too?
[He's hesitant to actually cast offensive magic in Lightning's direction, nervous of how her ability to mitigate it would extend here—and though it's unbidden, the first thing his memory conjures up is that horrible image he witnessed over the journal. That involved magic, too, even if it was different from this.
So instead, after a crack of the wrist, he'll be sending a blast of thunder where it won't harm anyone: straight over the lake. With the boost, he'll find that it doesn't bring his skill entirely back up to speed with how it was before he arrived here... but there's a definite marked change.]
I think it works. I don't know if casting it at you is a good idea or not... can you use Shell, too?
no subject
I don't think so. Doesn't seem like it would be much harder than Protect though, right?
[ It would be strange if she learned one and not the other... she'll keep trying and see what happens, then. ]
