[ Today, Lightning's doing something fairly unusual in comparison to her normal - and recently even darker than normal - behavior. For once, she's outside and yet doesn't seem busy, merely watching as her puppy Baldr frolics about in the general area of community housing 4 in search of sticks to defeat, things to dig up, and nearby people to greet. In fact, the young woman and dog look pretty safe to come 'visit' with today- especially since there's also no gunblade in sight, and as she sits down to lean against the outside wall, she makes a pretty inane-seeming public message. ]

These seasons... usually last about three months each, right? How much warmer does it get?

[She laughs at Lightning's response, and her own new dilemma.] There's always white.

[ Soft, half-scoffing laugh at that. ]

I think you have to be careful with white, if you're planning on actually getting in the water.

[ Oh yes, Lightning did live and work at a beach-based town. She has seen the awkwardness caused by light-colored clothing when their wearer wasn't thinking ahead about fabric-types and the like. ]

Even with swimsuits, really? I've only been to the beach once, so... heh. Lucky me, we're going together.

[ Oh, Aerith... Lightning gives a brief sigh. ]

Probably not anything you'll have to worry about.

[ ... But yes, she'll be checking anything light-colored that gets picked up, just in case; at least in this case, consider the flower girl's dignity protected! The fact that she's only ever been once doesn't surprise Lightning, though. That's plenty true of many Cocoon citizens as well. ]

[ Another soft scoff and a bit of an eye roll. ]

[ THAT'S THE LAST THING SHE NEEDS. =/ At least Lightning's actually... you know, trained in how to save attempted water-breathers, though. So. ]

Oh--! I'm not that reckless. Start in the shallow water, work my way up! No lifeguards needed here.

How did you learn?

Hm. Well, you and Baldr can figure it out together, I guess.

[ Speaking of which, Lightning now turns slightly to relocate said dog. It's not like it takes long to get into town proper, so- leash time! She also... has to think on that question for a few seconds... ]

... I don't know. I guess I must have first learned when I was pretty young. [ A slight pause, brows furrowed. Talking about her past pre-age-15 isn't usually something she dwells on much, still. ] I've been able to as long as I can remember.

[Grouping her with the dog, Lightning? 8(]

That is a long time. So you must be very comfortable in the water. ...Something wrong? [Tense eyebrows?]

[ Yes. Problem, Aerith? 8) ]

No, just thinking back. [ -- How often does she have to say that kind of thing? Probably a lot. ] In any case... they used to make everyone who joined the Security Regiment learn. At least in Bodhum.

I wonder if the soldiers working for Shinra had to learn. [Something to ask Zack but they're at the clothing store now, so Aerith opens the door and walks in, pushing it to stay open for Lightning and Baldr.]

[ No answer- she doesn't know, obviously, and... also she's busy brooding on whether or not her hometown even exists any more, with all the people gone...

She sighs as she enters, trying her best not to act like a kid who doesn't want to be there GOSH, and starts glancing around for something to do with her dog. Maybe she'll just kind of... hang onto him until he decides to lay down himself? 8|a ]

[ Or behemoths, HER NON-FAL'CIE NEMESES. Anyway, she pulls Baldr along with her, so glad they're the only ones around. If she still sort of has her eyes on things that aren't swimsuits, however, you'll... just have to forgive her. ]

You don't like dessert? [Shockers: FF7 is flanless.] That sounds pretty strange. Who'd put that on clothes?

[Just so long as you forgive Aerith practically diving into the swimsuits. She really is on her own enthusiasm level right now.]

You've never heard of...? [ Short sigh. +1 to Lightning's world being more awful, then. OWOO WOO WOO WOO >8O ] Never mind.

[ She shakes her head yet again to herself as she idly glances through things, all the while keeping a subtle eye on her friend's actions as well. Honestly, half of this stuff is comprised of things she's never even seen before, and that's not helping. ]

[Aerith looks mildly confused at Lightning trailing off, but it doesn't take long for her to shrug it aside. Tasteless prints aren't important right now--they're looking for the nice things!

She is, at least. And oho, what's this?]

[--Okay she was half-thinking of pitching the bikini (http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llvgqaKCN31qkatdgo1_500.jpg) at her, and her posture shows it, but she's behaved enough to at least wait until she knows Light is looking.]

[ She'll look and let Aerith throw it at her- it's not like she wouldn't just snatch it out of the air even if caught off-guard anyway. 8|

... And wow, how does this... stay on, anyway? In retaliation, Lightning grabs the first luridly yellow thing she sees and holds it up with a flat expression. It even has a smiley face! How's that? ]

Hmmm, are you sure? I don't think that kind of yellow would be flattering. But if you want to try it--!

[Yyyeah if that was meant to be retaliation? Lightning didn't say, so Aerith chooses to act like it was serious.]

I was lying. I think you would look great in yellow.

[ Driest sense of humor ever. ]

Oh Lightning. [a giggle before she becomes slightly more serious. ...still plenty light-hearted.] Okay, what do you want in a swim suit?

[ Something super-hot so she can attract all the boys and girls!! Or not. She puts up the one she was holding rather unceremoniously, idly brushing through the ones near it. ]

Mm... I don't think it makes much of a difference. Just... something that's not going to embarrass me.

[ This is Lightning- if she can't do a back-flip without flashing everyone...? That would be a problem. She frowns again as she seems to think about it too, though. It might be changed now to a state that's not as obvious, but she does still have that damned Brand on her chest.... ]

I've dressed up boys and let them make fools of themselves on their own. I won't pick anything bad! [The first one was not bad Lightning is just a prude 8| Oh, she should look for something more modest then... a tankini, maybe?

Also she loves Cloud she just can't help using the HANDY EXAMPLE.]

[ ... Haha, what. Lightning looks mildly amused, both at the mental image (LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW) and Aerith's seemingly unstoppable drive to find her something to wear. C'mon though, she just doesn't want to suffer a wardrobe malfunction if she does anything but walk around! ]

Maybe... we should just grab a bunch to take home and try.

[ She continues searching and pulling something out here and there, though it's noteworthy that the kind of thing she's gravitating toward aren't all that modest. 8|

... Momentary confusion at what seems to be a hair tie on one of the hangers for some reason, before yanking out something particularly colorful... ]

Oh, that is noticeable. So it was something else that Lightning didn't like about the other one--it was a little less practical than these.

They must have put it in the wrong place. [She's still looking at it with a confused expression when Lightning asks about what she's doing, and she turns around--

--but it'd horrify Zack. No teasing in that one!

Her face falls from its moment of delight until she puts on a more neutral smile.]

Umm... it's really nice, but it's not my thing. Let me look around a little more! [Definitely going with a one-piece; even with a tankini, she wouldn't want to risk the top riding up. She ducks back into the swimsuits.]
