Oh geez, right- [Zack lets himself fall backwards till he hits the floor, then snaps, letting the field vanish. ...Oof. Suddenly feeling heavier again.] ...That thing is kind of intense!

You think you can handle it?

[ Oh Lightning... why do you even bother asking that kind of question? :| ]

You just watch me in action and see for yourself.

[You have officially issued a challenge, and he is STEPPING UP.

Though he'll probably hit the walls a few times anyway. Good thing he's durable.]

[ A good thing, yes. Lightning tsks, but then slightly smiles again anyway at him. Silly as it is, it makes her feel good to make him happy at least a little... which is no doubt the major contributor in her increased tolerance here. 'Cuz she's pretty sure she could get used to it right now.

She waits until he's up again before she says anything else, tone drying a bit. ]

... Did you want the other thing too, or is that enough for now?

[She's got his full attention once again. (How does she keep doing that?)]

Wait, there's more?

[The gravity thing was plenty; what in the world did he do to deserve more?]

... Only reason I got the grav-con is because of the draft.

[ But is it too much, anyway? For a moment Lightning second-guesses, her eyes on the wrist she hooked the grav-con onto, but it's kind of late now to take back her mentioning there's more, so... ]

This one... will stick around.

[ Aaaand she reaches into a pocket at her hip, pulling out another device - although this one is even smaller, and dark orange, and though it kind of looks like a ring or something, she's put it on a chain, too.

She's got a funny look on her face as she reaches out again, to put it in his hand by laying the chain across it and then pulling the device up into his palm. There is, in fact, a bit of reluctance here for some reason. ]

[Zack can't help but notice that reluctance, and it both intrigues and worries him. Mental note: ask about that. Once he knows more, that is.]

What is it?

[It's... well, it's pretty, and in some ways it's even familiar, but for the life of him he can't figure out why, since it's probably something from her world. Strange.]

Salamandrine ring.

[ Her hands fold back on her lap, but it takes her a moment to look up, uuuup to his face again. ]

It suppresses fire-- or well, burning, in the area around you.

[Zack lifts the chain to study the ring more closely, brows lifting.]

Oh wow... you guys have these things too? Back on my world they're amulets.

Well, there's a couple of different ways to do it. Different principles and all that.

[ And different casings: rings, amulets-- like he cares about all the little physics and details, though. Never mind. ]

... I prefer this kind.

[Hm. Which is an opening to ask-]

Is that why you look like you don't really want to give it up?

[ Wait, she didn't realize-- was she really... looking like that? She blinks up at him, then straightens by leaning back a little. ]

I want you to have it, Zack.

[fairly]

[He watches her seriously for a moment longer, then finally relaxes his posture, lifting the ring to set it around his neck. After that, she gets a smile.]

Thanks, Light. I bet this'll make a big difference!

[And now she gets a kiss, if she's willing.]

[ Oh, about that. Fhwhdk--

Wait no, no, screw the keyboard-smashing. She's got a cute boyfriend and she can freakin' kiss him if she wants to...!

Doesn't mean she's not going to look stunned and stiffen up a bit, though.

And grab his arms, for some reason, but. ]

... Just don't lose it.

[ Hay, at least she's smiling a little. ]

[Damn right she can! And if she ever forgets he'll be happy to remind her. Someday he'll hopefully get her to relax during this sort of thing, though. Someday.

His grin turns a bit cheeky.]

I won't lose it! I'll wear it all the time, how about that?

[ And she's going to be in so much trouble if someone a bit more familiar with Cocoon custom takes a look at him wearing the thing and then jumps to the wrong conclusions. Fortunately, Hope's the only one currently around likely to talk to Zack... and with luck he already knows enough to realize that Lightning isn't exactly... you know...

...looking to be engaged right now... ]

Okay. [ She manages a slight returning smile- at least for a second or two before: ] At least I won't have to be as careful with Fire magic any more.

[ -- Wait, no, she's actually teasing. Kind of. Holy crap. ]

[...omg. he could kiss her for that one, too. She's so sexy when she teases.

Then again she's sexy practically all the time. (It's downright unfair.) He still doesn't know what the issue was, but his focus has shifted a bit, since she seems to feel better about it. He'll keep it in mind, though.]

You're not gonna hit me on purpose, are you?

Why would I do that?

[ WHEN HE'S ALREADY SO HOT ALL BY HIMSELF OHOHO.

But no, seriously now. Ongoing teasing aside, she intends to use this and the fact that feathers are very flammable to her advantage as much as possible in the next few days- this draft is going to see a whole lot of cultists suffering some very serious burns, in other words. ]

It'd probably look pretty funny.

[Because everything would be better if it was on fire. Granted, he's looking forward to seeing her use her abilities in a less restrained setting- not just because of the ring, but because he's never actually seen her out on a draft before.]

... You have a strange sense of humor.

[ The only time Lightning actually wants to see something on fire is if it's also something she wants gone. Say, Barthandelus.

Just... hopefully Zack is prepared to find out just how much of a freaking war goddess his girl is when she's not on the Luceti power-leash and all. With luck he'll be impressed rather than terrified; she's only gotten steadily stronger while in Luceti and everything, after all.

IN ANY CASE, she tilts her head, pausing a moment before she quietly sighs. ]

Happy birthday, Zack. A day early.

[Oh, honey, he is so very ready. And he'll enjoy every moment of it. For now, however, he's just happy to be hanging out with her, so he leans in for a quick little kiss on the cheek. He'll be fired up plenty for the battle later, that's for sure.]

Thanks, Light. It's already an awesome birthday.

[Even if they have to spend it on a battlefield fighting for their lives, at least he's in good company.]
